Kitchen one week on...

It's getting better all the time... Almost one week since our last post, a lot more of the finishing touches have occurred: fixing the bench height, cleaning away dust, door handles on, cornices, and of course filling all the drawers and cupboards. Feels like it's been a mammoth task, but we're nearly there - once the fridge is in its place,we can declare the kitchen fully functional at last!

From here it will be painting, flooring and splashback, and turning that clutter area in the picture below into a small 'office' area for mail, phone, keys, school notices, etc...
Stay tuned.

It's Saturday morning...

It's Saturday morning and the kitchen and laundry are partially in. The biggest hurdle we've hit are that the bench tops are really too high. We decided to get tall benches for Andy so we specified 950mm but the floor slopes, so in places it's actually 975mm and that extra 25mm makes a big difference! Things are on hold temporarily while the installers see if they can get shorter legs for the cupboards so that they can lower everything.

Renovations progressing...

The walls are sheeted...

Walls plastered, the kitchen arrives.

Friday: Kitchen installation is happening as I write... Slowly coming together at last.

Our polished floors have been taking a beating this week. Hopefully after a good clean they'll come up without too much damage.

Renovations in progress...

Saturday: the kitchen comes out...

The walls come off...

Sunday: the tiles come off the floor...

Monday/ Tuesday: sparky and carpenter wire and work on wall configurations; mess everywhere...

Renovations

Some before shots taken of our lovely blue kitchen before we moved into the house and before renovations began a week or so ago...

It's not hard to see it was in of some improvements... the blueness, the panelled walls, the view from the dining room into the toilet, the smallness and poor design of the kitchen were just some of the things in need of change.

Ted Smout Bridge Walk...

With 4 tunnel/bridges opening around Brisbane this year, we decided we had to go to at least one of the community days to celebrate their openings. On Sunday we joined with Andrew's Dad and thousands of others to walk the Ted Smout Memorial Bridge spanning between Brighton and Clontarf. At 2.7 km in length, it is the longest bridge in Australia, and our legs certainly knew it by the end of the morning!
