run the race...

The anticipation for today's cross country races at school have been building since the beginning of the school year. Three times a week, Liam's class have been out on the oval, running around and around, training for today. Being a small school in physical size, Northside have to bus the students to nearby Teralba Park, which makes the morning even more exciting than it might be otherwise. Liam has been so excited about today, and has really enjoyed himself during the training - talking about the number of laps completed, his personal best, etc. I just knew he was going to get out there today and give it his best shot.

Maybe it's this drive to do one's best in a running race that makes me tear up whenever I watch the face of one of the kids racing hard to get across the finish line. You can see they're hurting, hot and sweaty, and puffed out. Yet each one still runs on, to the tunes of encouraging cheers from peers, parents and teachers. It's beautiful. And I'm so proud of our boy. He didn't come first, or second, or third. He may have come in the middle somewhere - perhaps around 8th - but he did his best, he enjoyed himself, and he finished strong.

That's my boy. My precious son, may you live your life like you ran your race today. I'm so proud of you, and I will always be on the sidelines, cheering you on. xxx.
